"my desire to achieve has been ignited"
Amy Westgate
What is coaching and how can it help me?
I am your invisible support.
Coaching is us talking, one-to-one, to build your confidence in private for you to achieve something in your personal, professional or business life. I work closely with you to help you identify and even refine your goals so that they are meaningful and appropriate, know how you will achieve them and assess your progress. I use a variety of methods to help you attain and retain motivation, enthusiasm and self-confidence; I challenge you to achieve, help keep you on track, reflect upon events and share learning, working together to meet your needs.

Achieving comes from raised awareness. Awareness is identifying key contributing factors that affect any situation, particularly with what we want to achieve, why we want to achieve it, how we are going to do it and what or who might help or hinder our journey. Howells’ clients achieve raised awareness by us effectively listening and questioning, so that we draw out the issues, discuss objectively what is involved and agree goals with you. And, as our goals will almost invariably involve working with others, we will ensure that the level of your communication matches the same high level of your awareness.

How it works
Who am I?
I am Malcolm Howells. I formed Howells Consultancy over 10 years ago. I am an INLPTA Certified Trainer and Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), a former Police Superintendent & Head of Management Development with Greater Manchester Police. I created the consultancy to further develop a unique brand of personal development working with individuals and key companies, coaching individuals and groups within those companies to stimulate people to achieve and implement necessary change.

I help people remain more aware of what is necessary to achieve anything, to identify what they will do and be motivated and kept on track to achieve those goals. The most important skill I develop is the art of communication; effective listening and observation, clear and concise oral communication, checking understanding and that people know what is expected of them, evaluating whatever we agree to do, whether successful or not, and changing what we need to change. When we do that, we learn. When we learn, we are effective and confident. When we are confident, we attract even more success!
Who are you?
Personal Coaching
As an individual, you believe you have to make a decision and are probably looking for some guidance. Perhaps you're just starting a career and want to check out your ideas for progress; maybe you're starting or developing a business; you may be at a crossroads or you may be looking for some personal or professional development; perhaps you've decided on a career change or are facing life after redundancy or you are about to start active retirement. I can help you.

Executive Coaching
As a Chief Executive or business owner, you might be considering using coaching in the workplace to develop a particular group or team with a particular project or simply influence the culture of the organisation; a key element of our work is Executive Coaching, helping with strategic development and the management of change. I can help you.
Working together
How we will work together
Coaching is usually, one-to-one but can also work in groups, conducted in an objective environment. The approach must be flexible because we are all unique and creative and because what works for one person may not work for another! Coaching a senior executive may require a different approach to coaching someone in a more creative profession or someone in a production industry.

Each coaching session is followed by a written summary of the issues discussed on each occasion, which the coach will e-mail to you. All sessions are confidential, provided they do not breach our agreed code of ethics.

Whatever your reason, one-to-one coaching will provide the support you need to help you achieve. The first step of our work together is ensuring a good fit, which we can determine in a complimentary, no-obligation discussion.
What people say
Confident

Never have I been so confident about my own future. Coaching has brought out the drive, ambition and determination to achieve, and has reminded me of the skills I have and how to utilise them best. Christopher Caldwell, Photographer.

Impact

When I first met Malcolm Howells, I would never have believed how much of an impact he would have on my working life. He has been an inspiration to me and to a number of our people. He has taught me to believe in myself and to create a vision for my company. There were times when I had thoughts about giving up on this vision, but with Malcolm's persistence, guidance and patience, I quickly regained my confidence. I have observed a number of my employees who are approaching their careers and perhaps their lives in new and productive ways. I feel I owe Malcolm so much for what he has brought to me and look forward to a continued partnership in the future. Alison Pulleyn, MD, Kinderbear Nursery.

Inspirational

Malcolm is an exceptional training professional and coach. I have worked with him on a personal level as well as employing him to deliver training and coaching projects. He is a consummate professional, inspirational and knowledgable and I recommend him highly.Anne Yarker, HR Manager, SimonJersey.

No-Nonsense

Through Malcolm's approach of coaching and mentoring mixed with his no-nonsense style of confronting problem areas, he has helped each member of the team to identify their own strengths and weaknesses and recognise those of their colleagues. This has allowed them to grow in confidence and to work much better as a team. The results are seen not only in the change in behaviour, but also the hard evidence of improved productivity, smarter working and self confident decision making. Allan Ferguson, MD, Learoyd Packaging Ltd.

Drive Forward

Malcolm was invaluable in assisting us with a wide range of human resources issues, and was extremely constructive in assisting with major personnel changes. He was able to lend us very valuable assistance with our overall drive forward in our human resource programme and was instrumental in helping us achieve our current position.Peter Cloney, MD, Precision Polymer Egineering Ltd.

Forward Thinking

Malcolm is a good friend and much respected colleague of forty years.  As a member of Manchester Branch of NARPO he has done much to improve and modernize the branch with his forward thinking.
He was instrumental in introducing to members the facility to compose CV’s, and write job applications, something which is not available to retiring police officers. He also assists with interview technique for those who require it.  Because of this we are able to attract and keep more members.

His intellect, knowledge and expertise are phenomenal, and I regularly receive accolades from those he has assisted.  In fact his fame has now spread and he is assisting other NARPO members around the country, and I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Sandie Wilde, Chair-Manchester National Association of Retired Police Officers(NARPO), National Vice President of NARPO.

Achieve

Malcolm really is one in a million! Malcolm has become a good friend through the work that he has done for me and my business – ICQ Solutions over the last few years. I would highly recommend him. He is a true gentleman and a pleasure to be around and gets results every time whether he is working on a one to one basis or as a group, whether you are looking for help in building confidence personally or with your staff, generally improving communication or guidance in helping you to achieve your goals then Malcolm is your man. Karen Tuffy, MD, ICQ Solutions.

CV Development
Pre-Retirement

Most Curriculum Vitae lack the quality to grab the attention of the reader AND retain it. This is key in getting beyond the selection process before interview. Howells Consultancy builds CV's that develop interest and generate a positive response from the reader and enhanced confidence from the applicant.

Retirement is probably one of life’s greatest illusions... a distant dream for many years... then suddenly, it is upon us and everyday routines have changed, probably for good! Unplanned and uncertain, retirement is a huge emotional experience. With increased longevity, improved health and healthcare and, as we have all experienced recently, uncertain financial horizons, there is plenty to consider to help ensure that 'retirement' is pleasurable and fulfilled. If you own a business or manage a large corporation, you will probably want to consider the impact of retirement on the people that have served you loyally to help them prepare for this important stage of their life.
